Mr Popeye on the road

Classic mini ice cream van to hire in Surrey

Mr. Popeye is more than just an ice cream van – he’s a piece of motoring history. As the earliest surviving classic Mini ice cream van in the world, he holds a special place in the hearts of vintage vehicle lovers and ice cream fans alike.

Born in 1965, Mr. Popeye served the Midlands area of the UK faithfully throughout the swinging sixties, seventies, and into the late 1980s. Eventually, his cheerful jingle fell silent, and he was tucked away in a barn where he remained untouched and forgotten for decades.

As lifelong Mini enthusiasts, we couldn’t believe our luck when the opportunity to bring him back to life came our way. We jumped at the chance – and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the past two years, we’ve been lovingly restoring Mr. Popeye to his former glory, and we’ve documented the entire journey on our YouTube channel. It’s been an incredible ride – especially when we started hearing from people who remembered him from their childhood. Yes, we’ve had viewers get in touch to say they actually bought ice creams from him all those years ago!

Now fully restored and ready to spread smiles once again, Mr. Popeye is available for bookings in 2026. Whether you’re planning a wedding, vintage car show, corporate event, or community festival, we’d love to bring a scoop of nostalgia to your special day.

We Serve the best icecream!

Three generations of the family have been working together on Marshfield farm to make ice cream for over 35 years. They tend to their farmland in the South West using regenerative, sustainable farming methods. Every drop of milk in their multi-award-winning ice cream can be traced right back to the fields they call home.
